Babbitt Bearing Repair from Quadna
June 01, 2009
Quadna's qualified, full-time, specialized repair facility has the expertise to perform the Babbitt bearing repairs needed to ensure optimal equipment performance. When properly repaired, Babbitt bearings can run for years with little maintenance because they are bearings coated with one of a series of metal alloys characterized by their resistance to galling. By using state-of-the-art technology and repair practices, Quadna can repair customers' equipment and increase the life of their Babbitt bearings. We do this through the following repair methods:
- converting from lead to tin based alloys - producing a strengthened bond and an increased bearing life
- centrifugal casting - providing a better alternative to static pours to strengthen the bond
- converting from cast iron housing to steel - creating a better bond and increased overall strength
- enhancing machining practices - reducing need for hand scraping
Once a Babbitt bearing has been reconditioned, Quadna quality checks each bearing, ensuring proper shaft clearances, oil relief and oil holes sized per specifications as is concentricity. All are hydrostatically tested and undergo ultrasonic inspection.
